Modern western society has created a very specific purpose for the natural world. Landscaped backyards, sculpted city parks, even trail work in national parks serve to force the natural world to live up to our expectations. The images in this series share formal elements with the aesthetic past of landscape artwork, but shows traces of the modern human. These works expose the duality of our contemporary human interaction with landscape aesthetics by tracing the visual history of the picturesque.
